Graduation Project

This necklace was the practical part of my final exam to become a goldsmith.
The theme was “Mind the Gap“, which led me to a design inspired by train rails and wagons, the gaps between them, and how these gaps are bridged. The individual parts are made from bent quadratic tubes, and joined by hinges set at right angles, so as to allow movement in every direction. The necklace is made of two parts, held together by two clasps. They can be worn together as a 60cm necklace, or separately as a 40cm necklace and a 20cm wristband. The standard size of a wristband is 18cm for a woman and 20cm for a man, and the intended purpose is that this can be a piece of jewellery a man and a woman can wear together, thus bridging one last gap.
